How do I become a Christian?
The most important decision you could ever make is to accept God’s offer of salvation through Jesus Christ. That’s what it means to become a Christian, for your decision means that you surrender your life to Christ as your Lord and Savior. He will forgive you of your sins, give you eternal life, and then help you in your effort to live a daily life that pleases God. But you must make that decision on your own. No one can do it for you. How do you do that? At First Baptist Church, we like to say that it is as easy as ABC:
“A” stands for Admit. The Bible teaches that every human being has a problem called “sin.” No one is exempt from this problem. As the Bible states, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 3:23, 6:23). The first step toward receiving God’s free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ is to admit that you are a sinner and in need of salvation that you cannot earn on your own.
“B” stand for Believe. The Bible says that “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Since “the wages of sin is death,” someone had to die for our sins. Because God loves you, Jesus died in your place. Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross and rose from the dead, and put your trust completely in his work for you.
“C” stands for Commit. Putting all your faith in Jesus Christ, commit your life to him. “If you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, 10). You can do this by praying a simple prayer, one that goes something like this: “Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. And I know that I cannot save myself. I believe in my heart that you died on the cross for me and rose from the dead. Please forgive me of my sins, and come into my life today. I commit my life to you. Amen.”
If you prayed a prayer like that, or would like to know more about how you can have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, please let us know. Call the Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Shallotte at (910) 754-4048. We want to hear from you!
How do I join First Baptist Church?
If God is leading you to become a member of our fellowship, we would love to have you!
You may join by professing faith in Christ and becoming a candidate for baptism; by moving your membership from another Southern Baptist church; or by moving your membership from a church of another denomination, which may include receiving believer’s baptism by immersion. To join, simply come forward at the close of the service when the pastor gives everyone an opportunity to respond, and he will help you with your decision.
Also, if you are considering membership at FBCS, we encourage you to sign up for the Discipleship course “Discovering Church Membership” the next time it is offered.
